Kurt Zander Collection 1838-1926

This collection contains family papers of the Zander and Prager families, as well as some of Kurt Zander's personalpapers. There are several photographs of various family members and family homes in Prussia and Turkey, and a body of correspondence which documents the Zander family's time in Turkeyand Greece in 1904-1905.

Zander was born Johannes Kurt Zander in Stettin (now Szczecin, Poland) in 1860 and studied law. In 1894 he married Gertrud Simon. He was closely involved in the Anatolische Eisenbahngesellschaft (Anatolian Rail Company, now Anadolu Demiryolu Şirketi) during its attempts to build the Baghdad Railway in 1904-1905, and his family kept a house on the Aegean island Prinkipo (now Büyükada, Turkey), during this endeavor.
